Amazon Robotics empowers a smarter, faster, more consistent customer experience through automation. Amazon Robotics automates fulfillment center operations using various methods of robotic technology including autonomous mobile robots, sophisticated control software, language perception, power management, computer vision, depth sensing, machine learning, object recognition and tracking, and semantic understanding of commands.

This engineering leadership role offers a unique opportunity to spearhead our robotics software platform team. Our platform empowers engineers to develop advanced robotics solutions for our fulfillment centers, revolutionizing the way we operate.

As a leader in this position, you'll have the chance to nurture and expand a diverse team of talented engineers, program managers, and applied scientists, while fostering cross-functional collaboration with various customers and stakeholders.

In this role, you'll guide the team in evolving our product to incorporate the latest robotics industry advancements, simultaneously developing new skills in relevant technical domains. You'll be responsible for driving the team's roadmap priorities, strategically balancing investments between product growth and operational health across different systems.

Key job responsibilities
  • Building, leading and growing diverse, inclusive and high-performing engineering product teams, including recruiting, mentoring, motivating, promoting and performance management of engineers and scientists.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including customers, product managers, stakeholders and leaders to ensure the successful delivery of product capabilities
  • Timely execution and prioritization of goals for the team and effectively mitigating risks.
  • Strategic leadership to create product roadmaps, set the vision for the team and collaboratively partner with other stakeholder teams.
  • Technical leadership including architecture and design discussions for science and engineering problems and technical deep dives to ensure resolution of root causes of complex issues,
  • Manage the operational support of products at scale to ensure prevention and timely resolution of customer impactful problems.

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
