IT Analyst II - Data Engineer

The IT Analyst II - Data Engineer will work provincially within Data Integrity and Integration (DII), Cancer Advanced Analytics (CAA), Cancer Research & Analytics (CR&A), Cancer Care Alberta (CCA). The efficient use of big data within the healthcare system promises to revolutionize healthcare, improve patient outcomes, and drive the knowledge base of medicine forward through artificial intelligence, machine learning and real-world evidence.
This is a grant funded position with a high likelihood of annual renewal. As an IT Analyst II, you will provide technical support related to information technology applications either directly to users of the systems or to service delivery functions.
You will ensure reliable operations of information systems, resolve complex technical problems, find solutions to customer needs, and lead projects and program initiatives. You will be responsible for more advanced application, telecom or technology support duties.
You will investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex problems that have typically been escalated several levels before assignment to this position, and will translate business requirements into technical requirements for a solution and recommend a potential approach to the vendor.
You will analyse the solution provided to ensure that it fits both technical requirements and business needs. You will also spend time on project or initiative leadership and delivery. Completion of bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or equivalent.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to both technical and non-technical staff. 5 years of work experience in analytics, data warehousing, and business intelligence or similar environment. Experience with database development, SQL, Python, and Snowflake or similar cloud-based environments.
Demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Certification in specific data warehousing and business intelligence tools, ITIL foundations and project management are an asset. Experience working with health data, preferably cancer or BMT.
As the IT Analyst II, you would be part of a team of technical analysts, data analysts, and subject matter experts that work to support a future-ready, integrated Data Environment for Cancer Inquiries and Decisions (DECIDe) within CCA. As the first of its kind in North America, DECIDe will become the cornerstone cancer data environment in Alberta, enabling streamlined access to real-world cancer data from clinical practice, research, quality improvement and patients in a single data environment.
You will also work on other data related projects that impact CCA patient care, including a Cell Therapy (BMT) data platform that will require system design and collaboration with business end users. Technical skill, and business acumen, will be essential to the success of the position when looking at gathering end-user requirements, supporting their development, building the infrastructure, and maintaining the environment.This is a grant funded position with a high likelihood of annual renewal.
