What is the Opportunity?
The position of Managing Director, Global Head Lending Services, has global accountability for the operational teams supporting the fulfillment processes and centralized service environment for the Wholesale Loan book in Capital Markets as well as some retail client business.The role also manages the Agency Services Group which acts on behalf of Royal Bank of Canada as Agent for all loans that are underwritten and syndicated by RBC for both the Capital Markets platform as well as the retail bank.
The role provides the leadership to deliver exceptional customer service by adapting a mindset of continuous process improvement and accountability for the delivery of the department goals and objectives aligned with annual plan targets. In addition to daily responsibilities, the Global Head will lead and execute on service delivery objectives and strategies which can be optimized across the business to create a stabilized, controllable and scalable infrastructure for the absorption of new business initiatives in support of RBC’s Capital Markets Credit loan book.
The Head of Lending Services will establish the vision and set out goals within the team, driving high performance management and innovative transformation while supporting employee career development and rewarding strong performance. What will you do?
Operational Excellence- Effectively manage Loan Servicing and Agency Services through leadership and governance of daily accountabilities and strategic though leadership that contributes to ongoing improvement in service levels and cost efficiencies while adhering to client strategies and mitigation of related operational/credit risk.
- Manage the operational risk associated with execution of team accountabilities managing lending product structures (e.g., loans, credit facilities, letters of credit, etc.) and ensure that adequate process controls are in place and lead to a robust operating environment.
- Integrate new business initiatives by leveraging the full value of the team to develop better solutions and achieve a cross enterprise mindset.
- Proactively manage the verification and safekeeping of all collateral granted in support of loans to RBC Capital Markets clients by leveraging technology to mitigate the risk of privacy/compliance issues and ensuring enforceability of all collateral held.
- Provide ongoing oversight to ensure financial controls are well established and maintained ensuring the books of record are complete and accurate.
- Takes a strategic view of resourcing and reskilling to accommodate changes in the business as well as evolving regulatory requirements and technology.
- Managing operational risk through diligent execution of a robust control framework and ensuring appropriate documented procedures, process maps and internal controls are in place.
- Pro-actively lead the creation of clearly defined, robust, repeatable and scalable solutions and drive automated STP solutions to minimize risks of manual errors.
- Review processes on an on-going basis to ensure that they continue to be relevant and compliant with Standing Order policies, industry best practices and regulations.
- Stay current on industry trends and the competitive landscape to effectively anticipate operational risks and develop best in class solutions to mitigate occurrence.
- Ensure sufficient controls are in place to support and sign off the attestation processes, in accordance with the global RBC attestation policy.
- Leverage defined key risk indicators to monitor team performance and productivity in a control environment to minimize operational risk events.
- Responsible for the financial planning and budget of NIE transits which includes preparing several iterations of P&L, variance analysis, resource planning and cost allocation models.
- Ensure there are no overruns on controllable costs and budgets are managed within plan targets.
- Execute cost reduction opportunities that do not jeopardize risk and control infrastructure or diminish our service level.
- Develop drive Transformational Strategies and ensure that appropriate documented procedures, process maps and internal controls are in place to effectively mitigate operational risks and efficiently support trading activities.
- Develop and execute on technology automation strategies that results in a scalable and digital infrastructure while maintaining appropriate management control and compliance environment.
- Leads the development of strategic initiatives with the intent to create efficiencies that lower cost of services by introducing automation and leading the deployment of new technology, resource optimization strategies, or process reengineering approaches.
- Cultivate relationships with counterparts and vendors who offer solutions in the lending services space to help drive innovation investment decisions.
- Continuously evaluate and innovate the end-to-end process in order to attain a scalable infrastructure while maintaining an appropriate management control and compliance environment.
- Leads the development of strategic initiatives with the intent to create efficiencies that lower cost of services by introducing automation and leading the deployment of new technology, resource optimization strategies, or process reengineering approaches.
- Proactively leads the creation of clearly defined, robust, repeatable and scalable solutions in a highly controlled environment.
- Lead proactively and effectively in the formulation of the strategic directions, creation of measurable key performance indicators, key risk indicators and executing on strategic direction to advance lending capabilities in a more digitally enabled environment.
- Selects and builds high performing teams, leveraging individual capabilities and strengths.

- Solid business knowledge as it relates to all Capital Markets’ products.
- 10+ years of financial background, relevant professional qualification and experience in leading global teams and initiatives.
- Extensive experience successfully leading a Capital Markets operations team.
- Experience presenting to senior executives.
- Experience in accounting or budgeting, ability to conduct ROI analysis for potential and existing products.
- Experience in analytical development and leading high profile global initiatives.
- Strong consulting skill set strategic thinking and ability to identify key drivers, core assumptions and significant trends.
- Extensive experience with portfolio management and the ability to manage projects involving multiple and complex data sets.
- Track record of strong leadership and influencing skills. Possessing strong emotional intelligence/maturity.
- Experience operating in a complex, matrix management environment.
