Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting

Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting will be a key member of the finance team, reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting. This role supports the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, ensuring compliance with IFRS and other relevant regulations.

The Senior Accountant will assist in preparing internal and external financial reports, contribute to regulatory filings, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure financial data accurately reflects Porter’s operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a keen attention to detail, and a proactive mindset to support continuous improvements in financial reporting processes.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely quarterly financial reporting documents, including consolidated financial statements, Management’s Discussion and Analysis (MD&A), and materials for the disclosure and audit committees.
  • Support the Finance team in producing accurate monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc financial reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide accounting insights and ensure financial data is aligned with IFRS and internal policies.
  • Perform technical accounting research and assist in analyzing complex agreements and transactions to determine appropriate accounting treatments.
  • Prepare technical and complex accounting journal entries as required.
  • Stay informed on new and evolving accounting standards, supporting the team in ensuring compliance and implementing changes.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and assist in managing the annual audit process to ensure timely and efficient completion.
  • Contribute to improving the accuracy, quality, and timeliness of financial information prepared for leadership and the Audit Committee.
  • Support the development and implementation of new financial policies, processes, and systems to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Assist in maintaining and strengthening internal controls over financial reporting, including documentation and updates to key processes and controls.
  • Participate in finance transformation initiatives, ensuring accounting processes are accurately implemented.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members, promoting growth and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate with the broader finance team and other corporate and operational departments to ensure accurate, complete, and compliant financial reporting.
  • Actively engage in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS), reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations while promoting and adhering to the Company Safety Policy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related discipline, complemented by a CPA accreditation (near completion is accepted).
  • Minimum of 3 years of direct financial reporting experience; experience in the airline or transportation industry is considered an asset.
  • Prior experience with a major public accounting firm (preferred).
  • Strong technical accounting expertise with good working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and consolidated reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with strong fundamental and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional financial discipline, particularly in the areas of compliance and technical accounting.
  • Highly organized, with a strong focus on accuracy, timeliness, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with a strong aptitude for reviewing financial information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Proactive and solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to identify and implement process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial data effectively to stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Team-oriented professional, capable of influencing and collaborating across multiple functions.
  • Familiarity with large Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, API integrations, and other autonomous technologies.
