Chief Estimator - ICI General Contractor - OttawaPosition Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Estimator to lead our estimating function in the Ottawa region. Reporting to senior leadership, the Chief Estimator is responsible for overseeing all estimating activities, guiding bid strategy, and ensuring competitive, accurate, and comprehensive project pricing.

This role is integral to driving business growth, mentoring the estimating team, and strengthening relationships with clients, consultants, and trade partners.Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop the estimating team, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture
• Establish estimating standards, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Participate in strategic planning, market positioning, and go/no-go decision-making
• Work closely with senior leadership on pipeline management and business development initiatives

• Oversee all aspects of the estimating process, including conceptual, design-build, and stipulated sum tenders
• Review and validate cost estimates, bid submissions, and proposals for accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness
• Develop and implement bid strategies aligned with company objectives
• Ensure accurate interpretation of drawings, specifications, and project requirements

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers
• Participate in client meetings, presentations, and negotiations
• Support business development efforts, including proposal submissions and interviews

• Identify project risks and opportunities during the preconstruction phase
• Lead value engineering exercises to optimize project costs while maintaining quality and scope
• Analyze market conditions, trade pricing, and cost trends in the Ottawa and Eastern Ontario ICI market

• Oversee the use and optimization of estimating tools, software, and databases
• Ensure accurate cost history tracking and benchmarking
• Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and consistency

The Successful Applicant

• Minimum 10+ years of estimating experience in the ICI construction sector
• Proven leadership experience managing estimating teams and large-scale projects
• Experience working on projects valued at $30 - 100 Million.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and trade scopes within the Ontario market
• Demonstrated experience in conceptual estimating, design-build, and negotiated projects
• Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
• Gold Seal Certification (GSC), P.Eng., or equivalent designation is considered an asset
