Position Purpose:

Overall duty of this position is to provide detailed analysis of Company results and the development and management of an in-depth job costing reporting system to allow operations management to better understand the key drivers of the business.
This position will also work closely with the regions to elevate the monthly accounting and accrual process. In addition, this position will work closely with the invoicing and collections teams to ensure that the related processes and procedures are enhanced and supported as required.

The Senior Financial Analyst plays a critical role in the development of the annual financial budget as well as the on-going maintenance of the rolling forecast. The Senior Financial Analyst is also responsible to work with operations to ensure the general ledger accounts, for the areas of operations they work with, are properly maintained including processing reconciliations of accounts, preparing various working papers and schedules and reviewing financial statements.
While managing internal controls, the Senior Financial Analyst is consistently evaluating financial operations to develop and optimize best accounting practice processes. This position will have an initial focus on Canada East operations and is available to candidates in the Greater Toronto Area, Walkerton and/or Edmonton Area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 •  Responsible for performing deep-dive reviews of Project P&Ls.
 •  Responsible for performing revenue, cost and overhead drilldowns and identifying areas for improvements to improve margins.
 •  Facilitate and lead cost reduction initiatives to improve profit margins of a project.
 •  Work closely with the invoicing and collections teams to ensure that the related processes and procedures are enhanced and supported as required.
 •  Responsible for region expense and cost reviews, budgeting/forecasting analysis versus actuals, month-end accruals, journal entries, general ledger reconciliation and allocation keys of costs/expenses.
 •  Partners and works closely with Operations in managing project P&Ls and pricing discussions.
 •  Drives controls to manage project and site profitability.
 •  Verifies pricing proposals from regions.
 •  Responsible for performing analytics and quality reviews on key finance processes (AR, AP, GL, etc.).
 •  Ensures all WIP revenue accruals are fully supported and substantiated.
 •  Supports internal and external audits.
 •  Ensures timely and accurate reporting of revenues, expenses and accruals.
 •  Reviews contracts, pricing and agreements that will impact both balance sheet and P&L.
 •  Supports month-end, quarter and year-end closing.
 •  Provides back-up support to other members of the finance team, as required.
 •  Support corporate month end reporting analysis.
 •  Support the monthly sales forecast process, including timely issue sales forecast tool, participating in the discussion of sales forecast results and updating the rolling forecast.
 •  Adheres to organizational policies and procedures, including but not limited to Applus Code of Ethics and Confidentiality Agreements.
 •  Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.

 •  Strong verbal and written communication skills matched with the ability to negotiate and build relationships with key stakeholders.

Education and Work Experience:

 •  University Degree or College Diploma in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field.
 •  Minimum of five years’ experience in Accounting within a multi-business unit organization and/or shared services environment.
 •  Professional Accounting Designation, (CPA) is an asset.
 •  Experience with SAP is an asset.
 •  Equivalent industry experience combined with other formal training and accreditations may be accepted.

Working Conditions:

 •  The physical environment requires the employee to work inside an office environment, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
 •  The work is primarily sedentary.
 •  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
 •  Work outside of normal business hours will be occasionally required.
 •  Overtime required during the week and weekend with work volume.
 •  Ability to be flexible with work schedules and respond to requests without advance warning or notification.
 •  Occasional to frequent travel will be required within Canada.
