The Northern Alberta YMCA is looking for Day Camp Counsellors to provide leadership for and create a safe, positive, and fun environment for our campers, fellow staff, and volunteers.

As a Day Camp Counsellor, you will work with other counsellors to provide a memorable summer for our campers and your peers.

As a counsellor, you will benefit from a comprehensive one-week training program prior to camp start. You will learn best practices in behaviour management, program design, team communication and collaboration.

You will enhance your problem solving and customer service skills and learn to navigate parent concerns with the help of your leaders.

Essential Functions
 •  Lead day camp programming by maintaining attendance and program records, plan and direct lesson plans and program activities, and prepare and distribute evaluations of programs
 •  Active supervision of campers and volunteers; manage camper behavior in accordance with the Day Camp Behavior Management Policies and Procedures
 •  Ensure all safety documents are accurately and effectively completed. Ensure a safe environment for all campers, volunteers, and staff at all times
 •  Lead by example and promote a personal understanding of and appreciation for the mission, diversity, and social inclusion
 •  Attend all Day Camp training and other YMCA training sessions as required

What You'll Need
 •  High-school Diploma or in pursuit of post-secondary education in a field connected to children and youth is an asset. (Recreation, Child Studies, Education, Physical Education, etc.)
 •  Experience working with children and youth in a camp environment is preferred
 •  Customer service experience is an asset ability to communicate with parents, families, and volunteers
 •  Must have Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C prior to hire (the Y will provide support in registration $60 after YMCA Discount)
 •  Important : As this role is responsible for the care of children, we require a Police Information Check to be provided in advance of your first day of work.

Instructions will be provided at the time of offer. If under 18, you will sign a declaration. If over 18, you will need to provide a Police Information Check with results satisfactory to the YMCA of Northern Alberta.

Counsellor and Coordinator Training :

Meet and Greet : Early June

Finalize hiring documents, initiation of online child protection training.

In-person Counsellor Training Start : June 24

Day 1 Role expectations and team building

Day 2 Program management, Physical Literacy

Day 3 Pre and Post care training, Inclusivity

Day 4 - Health, Safety, and Child Protection

Day 5 Recap, team building
