What is the role?
This Senior Manager role helps in the identification and measurement of organizational, physical, and financial risk; implements programs and business processes to minimize risk. It ensures internal control activities are operating in an effective manner resulting in ongoing compliance with all regulatory requirements.You will provide counsel to senior management, enhancing their ability to anticipate and manage operational risks effectively. You will ensure adequacy of the control environment within Personal Banking and the identification and design of appropriate controls to mitigate risk.
This role has first line of defense responsibility for operational risk, responsible to assist the Personal Banking Business Unit in identifying and mitigating operational risk.
What will you do?- Along with the Director, Operational Risk, this role is responsible to ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable Operational Risk policies, standards, and procedures.
- The Incumbent will maintain effective relationships and routines with first, second and third line of defense risk, governance and control teams, and review, understand and action in a timely manner issues and trends highlighted in risk, governance, and control reporting.
- Supports the Director, Operational Risk ensuring compliance with all Enterprise Operational Risk Standards and policies.
- Proactively identifies control weaknesses and supports the business in recommended action plans and development of controls and controls documentation.
- Ongoing support and participation in the end-to-end product risk assessment process.
- Along with the Director, Operational Risk, provides guidance and concurrence for the completion of project/initiative change risk assessments, identify opportunities for control optimization, and assist with determining the materiality of risk and impact to the business’ operational risk profile.
- Ensure the effective implementation and execution of Operational Risk programs in Personal Banking including Internal operational risk events, external event analysis, issue management, scenario analysis, and risk and control identification and assessment.
- Analyze external events and liaise with the business, where warranted, to ascertain if similar exposures exist within supported LOB, assess the impact on the business’ operational risk profile, and develop mitigation strategies if required.
- Review material internal operational risk events with the business to evaluate process/control failures and set action plans appropriate to the event, if necessary.
- Identifies opportunities for process level risk, control self-assessments (RCSA).
- Through in-depth knowledge of business strategies, programs, and policies/procedures, identify key operational risk exposures within supported LOB and assess their impact on business objectives.
- Proactively identify opportunities to perform targeted operational risk assessments in a fully coordinated manner with other groups and in accordance with RBC’s Enterprise Operational Risk Management Framework.
- Supports the development, and challenge, of management action plans for operational & regulatory related issues.
What you need to succeed?
Must- have:
- Strong understanding and experience in Operational Risk Management
- 5+ years in the financial services industry implementing risk management practices
- A strong understanding of the Personal Banking business. Previous experience in Operations an asset.
- Good presentation and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Strong analytical skills and critical thinking with a proven ability to source, analyze and summarize transactional and financial data to provide risk insights.
- Experience working in a complex, matrix environment and proactively managing a diverse set of stakeholders.
- Teamwork & Cooperation – ability to build partnerships with stakeholders, adaptability and relationship building within a hybrid environment

- Project Management or Consulting experience
