Senior Electrical Technologist
Overview:
Assemble and test printed circuit boards, cable assemblies, and electromechanical systems as well as provide hardware design support and troubleshooting. Manage the lab environment and equipment including repair and calibration. Lead the lab safety and ESD best practices.You will work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop products and systems for a wide range of applications.
Based in our Ottawa office, some travel, primarily in Canada and USA, may be required.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in design / troubleshooting of analog, digital and power circuits.
- Assemble / rework PCBs and Cable Assemblies.
- Conduct testing and assembly / packaging of electronic prototypes.
- Design, assemble and maintain equipment, processes, and systems.
- Participate in the analysis of test results and data.
- Participate in the development of test procedures.
- Maintain lab equipment calibration schedules.
- Manage the lab safety and ESD procedures and training.
Qualifications:
Education, Experience, Certifications- Diploma in electronics engineering technology, electrical Engineering technology.
- A minimum of 15 years’ related experience.
- Experience using electronic test equipment and instrumentation.
- Experience in troubleshooting electronics.
- Experience with high precision manual soldering.
- Experience with electrical wiring and instrumentation.Experience with QA principles and safety practices is desirable.
- Schematic capture and PCB layout desirable.
- Knowledge of microcontroller firmware development is desirable
- Positive, open minded, problem solving attitude.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-directed, proactive approach to tasks and time management
- The role involves working in both office and laboratory settings.
- The position involves working with hazardous materials and equipment, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
- The job may require standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of equipment and materials up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
- Travel as required to meet business needs.
- Travel may be domestic and international (US).
- Eligible for Government of Canada security clearance required.
Must be eligible to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident and be eligible for Canadian Controlled Goods certification.
