Join our Laboratory Services team here at Humber River Health and help to deliver timely and accurate test results and improve patient outcomes.
Our Laboratory Services Department uses state of the art equipment, technology and processes to collect and test clinical specimens in order to obtain information about the health of our patients so that our inter-professional teams can diagnose, treat and prevent disease.
Reporting to the Chief Medical Laboratory Director and Director, Laboratory Medicine our Pathology Assistants II are responsible in performing a variety of tasks consisting primarily of gross examination of surgical pathology specimens and the assistance with the performance of autopsies under the direction and supervision of a pathologist

Position Responsibilities:
- Preparation of human tissue surgical specimens, including gross description and dissection of specimens, for histological examination by a Pathologist.
- Assist Pathologists in performing human postmortem examinations (autopsies).
- Processing quick section as required.
- Assuring special procedures/protocols are followed by staff involved in specimen procurement.
- Assisting in the organization and coordination of anatomic pathology lectures (i.e. Surgical and Autopsy rounds).
- Administrative maintenance of anatomic/surgical pathology protocols, reports and data including photographic and microscopic slides.
- Responsible for the day to day management of the Morgue.
- Performing such administrative, budgetary, supervisory, teaching and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Candidate for or holding a Canadian Association of Pathologists (CAP) certification an asset.
- Masters of Science degree in a Pathologist Assistant Program an asset.
- Experience as a Pathology Assistant preferred.
- Experience in adult and neonatal autopsy an asset.
- Experience in gross dissection with strong knowledge of human anatomy, dissection techniques and gross pathology in normal and disease states required.
- Effective communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, teamwork, and customer service skills required.
- Computer skills, knowledge of Meditech system an asset.
- Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.
