Position Overview:
Resumes are being accepted for the position of Financial Analyst within the Financial Strategy and Reporting Division of the Finance Team. Reporting to the Supervisor, Corporate Reporting, the successful candidate will complete the overall daily functions for Tangible Capital Asset accounting and reporting which includes the design, review and implementation of effective control related policies and procedures for tangible capital assets.
Key duties and responsibilities- Perform monthly analysis of capital projections, capitalization accounting entries, including work in progress reallocations.
- Be responsible for capital asset class determination in accordance with established policy and guidelines.
- Process monthly depreciation in JDEdwards, including depreciation analysis.
- Complete capital system integrity reconciliations.
- Complete tangible capital asset account analysis.
- Assist Senior Corporate Analyst with capital reporting for Ministry Financial Information Return (FIR) and financial statements.
- Collaborate with the Corporate Asset Management team to manage consistency of tangible capital asset and inventory classification.
- Calculate ITC amounts for capital assets.
- Prepare month end closing and year end procedures for capital assets.
- Prepare support for capital assets for external auditors.
- Assist in the design and implementation of effective control related policies and procedures for capital assets as needed.
- Provide research and drafting of financial accounting policies and procedures for capital assets.
- Perform capital asset accounting-related support and system training for City Staff as required
- Lead or assist in special projects as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Experience related to the duties listed above, normally acquired through post-secondary education in Finance/Accounting or related field, and/or a professional accounting designation or equivalent, and considerable experience in a related financial planning role, preferably within the public sector. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to demonstrate knowledge of all accounting functions from basic journal entries to year end closing activity.
- Excellent mathematical skills, aptitude for figures, thoroughness and attention to detail and accuracy are critical to this position.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff and stakeholders.
- Advanced skills with financial reporting software (for example: JD Edwards, FMW).
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience with capital assets accounting is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and to prioritize in order to meet strict deadlines.
Hours of work
35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:30 a.m and 4:30 p.m. This position is eligible for hybrid and flexible work arrangement options (as per current corporate policy).
Pay/Salary
Non-Union Grade 5: $83,938.40- $104,923.00
