Humber River Health is seeking a dynamic and experienced to lead our Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness team and provide executive authority and responsibility for ensuring strategies are implemented to promote a safe, healthy and well workplace where our staff, physicians, students and volunteers can work together to deliver innovative and compassionate healthcare in our community.
Employment Status: Permanent Full-TimeHours of Work: Normal hours of work will be Monday - Friday. Evenings and work on weekends may be required based upon operational needs..
Location: Humber River Health, Wilson Site with occasional travel to Finch and Church site (as required)

Reporting to Corporate Director, Human Resources the Director of Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness (OHSW) will provide executive leadership and oversight to ensure the implementation of strategies that promote a safe, healthy, and productive workplace.This includes reducing the frequency and severity of workplace accidents and minimizing employee time lost due to illness or injury. You will also oversee the development and maintenance of quality management initiatives aligned with Humber River Health standards while ensuring the OHSW team prevents and addresses actual and potential Occupational Health and Safety risks.
Your operational management expertise will ensure processes and practices are in compliance with legislative requirements and policies related to the health, safety and wellness of our staff and volunteers.
Our ideal candidate is an Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness leader with a graduate degree in health or business administration and comprehensive knowledge with all Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness related legislations and regulations.Experience with Hospitals of Ontario Disability Income Plan (1980 and 1992 plan) also known as HOODIP is required. Track record of quality improvement implementation is essential along with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
What will your day look like?- In partnership with the Corporate Director, Human Resources sets and directs the planning process for Occupational Health and Safety Services
- Ensures program elements support the principles of Disability Management including early intervention, consistent administrative practices, ongoing legislative compliance and appropriate and productive workplace accommodations.
- Directs all functions, processes and activities related to health/infectious disease surveillance, safety services, WSIB claims management, disability management, ergonomic services, employee health services, annual flu campaign, hospital's wellness program and attendance management.
- Develops and implements action plans to maintain OHSW KPIs at the level outlined in annual corporate goals and objectives.
- Ensures quality programs are in place and aligned with corporate quality initiatives, including developing, implementing and communicating comprehensive performance indicators to demonstrate quality and efficiency of HRH and the department.
- Provides oversight and direction to staff on the appropriate management of ill/injured employees, including direction on managing modified work processes and staff.
- Attends key corporate meetings and committees to provide OHSW updates. Liaises with and develops effective working relationships with relevant associations and educational institutions to keep up to date on current and emerging health care legislation, developments and trends and assess their impact on the Hospital.
- Works in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contravention’s of the Act, in a timely manner.
- Develop and deliver educational materials and programs for clinical areas in compliance with legislative requirements, aligned with annual goals and objectives to meet organizational commitment to quality and safety.
- Monitor clinical staff job descriptions and job plans for mandatory inclusion of OHSW requirements in continuing professional development and appraisals.
- Performs cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested, including consultative leadership for the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
- Report Hospital indicators in compliance with Ministry reporting requirements.
