The goals of Growing Up Hope Society’s Family Togetherness Program are aimed at:
- Keeping families together while addressing the needs/issues that brought them into care.
- Providing the space and the time to practice new parenting skills in a fully supported environment.
- Sheltering and providing for the entire family in order to reduce the daily living stressors so that parents can focus on healing their traumas and those of their children.
- Providing a culturally relevant program for connection and access to cultural events.
- Meeting individual family needs through tailored programming.
- Minimizing ACEs for children by providing a healthy and safe home environment with their parents.
- Long-term successful parenting that sees a reduction in return to care.
We have houses in three cities, but are hiring specific to Mission and Abbotsford.
Weekend availability is a MUST and candidates will not be considered if they cannot be available at least 2 weekends per month. Class 5 and reliable vehicle a must.
We are looking for candidates who understand that the key to growth is relationship and who have the education and experience to develop meaningful relationships with people from hard places. As a daytime residence worker you will be responsible for:
- Supporting children in care with managing life (school/appointments/work/shopping/leisure)
- Attending appointments / meetings /activities
- Evaluating development of skills taught in our life skills program and provide input for updating Care Plans
- Modelling attachment parenting through positive interaction and relationship building
- Model appropriate / professional conduct with community
- Identify and advise residence coordinators of concerning behaviours
- Following house protocols for safety, incident reporting
- Administer medication in accordance with policy
- Provides emotional support and feedback to children and their families in a respectful way
- Completes related records such as log books, charts, incident reports
- Light house keeping and home maintenance duties (laundry, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, lawn mowing, inventory etc) and meal preparation
- Recognizes aggressive behaviour triggers and is able to deescalate using relationship (or other non-violent crisis intervention strategies)
- Understands infant needs and new parent needs
- Other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, legible penmanship
- Certificate in related human / social service field
- and/or at least 1 year related experience or combination education/training/experience
- Understanding of Canada’s history with Indigenous people and its impact on our families
- Complete HUB clearance, including Criminal Record and Prior Contact (MCFD) Search proving ability to work with vulnerable youth and families
- Food Safe Certification
- First Aid / CPR (including CPR C for infants and children)
- Class 5 Driver’s Licence, own vehicle with 5 million liability insurance, provide a clean Driver’s Abstract
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and be physically capable of activities such as walking, hiking, light yard maintenance, swimming, gardening
- Ideal candidates would also have non-violent crisis intervention training
- Ideal candidates will have experience or education pertaining to FASD, ASD and trauma
- Must possess knowledge of Canada's history with Indigenous Peoples
Preference will be given to those with previous HUB clearance. Clearance can take 4-6 weeks for candidates who have previously lived outside of BC, please plan accordingly and follow directions closely.
