Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor Roads Maintenance and the direction of the Leadhand, performs Foot Patrol duties.

MAJOR TASKS:

  • Removes paper, sand and other debris using litter picks, shovels, rakes and self propelled mechanized vacuum cleaners.
  • Removes all posters from unauthorized areas.
  • Cleans out pole mounted garbage containers, and baskets located on the streets.
  • Sands, salts, shovels and scrapes ice and snow from sidewalks when required.
  • Removes or barricades any hazards found in patrol area and notifies appropriate personnel.
  • Carries out the duties of an Equipment Operator IV, when required.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be reliable and physically capable of performing duties and operating maintenance equipment as required
  • Must be tactful, courteous, and capable of performing routine work with a minimum of supervision
  • Must be able to understand, read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class “D” Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent with a “Z” endorsement
  • Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation

SPECIFIC:

  • Must be able to be trained on self propelled mechanized street cleaning equipment and within one year of accepting the position, be proficient in the use of sidewalk maintenance equipment complete with all attachments, and truck-mounted sanding/salting/pre-wetting units with on-board information systems.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Will be required to work shifts
  • Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
  • May be required to provide a successful driver’s record (uncertified)
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of this job
  • Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
