Health Services - Chronic Disease & Injury Prevention

Status: Contract Full Time; Duration: 15 months

Salary Range: $89,469 - $111,834 per annum, plus comprehensive benefits

Location: 7120 Hurontario St, Mississauga, ON

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

Who we are: The Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention division of Peel Public Health supports the advancement of chronic disease and injury prevention.

The Analyst, Research and Policy on the Research, Policy and Planning team in the Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention division will use their expertise in epidemiology, critical appraisal, and knowledge synthesis to monitor and review research evidence on community water fluoridation.

They will use strong critical thinking and policy analysis skills to understand and summarize various sources of information to support evidence-informed decision making. They will provide project leadership and strategic advice on this and other topic areas and use strong communication and collaboration skills to work with internal and external partners.

What you will do in this role:

  • Apply advanced knowledge of public health and/or technical knowledge regarding population health, social determinants of health, epidemiology and evidence-informed decision making.
  • Monitor, identify, analyze and provide recommendations on trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Provide expert interpretation of legislation and internal policies and procedures.
  • Synthesize research evidence and participate in research projects.
  • Interpret, synthesize, and integrate health data and research evidence to provide recommendations to guide policy and programming decisions.
  • Analyze information to identify emerging issues and trends and incorporate relevant findings into recommendations for policy and program development.
  • Monitor, develop, implement and advocate for policies that will have positive population health implications.
  • Provide expert guidance to the program planning and evaluation process.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative, collaborative and strategic relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Collaborate with a wide variety of experts, corporate staff and federal, provincial and regional colleagues.
  • Ensure issues of diversity, ethnicity, language and culture are reflected in research and policy analyses.
  • Prepare complex and specialized documentation, reports and statistical analyses.
  • Synthesize complex information into a wide range of written and visual communication products such as reviews of research evidence, briefing documents, policy positions and presentations.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and represent manager/director/Associate Medical Officers of Health/Medical Officer of Health at local, provincial, federal and international meetings and conferences.
  • Design and implement knowledge translation activities related to research evidence, data and policy.
  • Act as a key representative for specific programs, projects and services
  • Act as project manager for divisional or departmental projects.
  • Respond quickly and competently to high priority and complex questions and assignments that may include consultation with Medical Officers of Health and directors.

What the role requires:

  • At least three (3) years of work experience in a Public Health setting
  • A Master’s degree, preferred, in Public Health Sciences or a relevant discipline
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Broad knowledge of public health issues and applicable legislation
  • Experience in evidence-informed decision-making methodology, project management, project leadership
  • Experience with epidemiological study design and application of research evidence in practice
  • Knowledge of analytical, statistical, and epidemiological methods
  • Experience in informing policy development
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team setting and across organizational boundaries
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of discretion and diplomacy

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent facilitation, presentation, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information for a variety of audiences
  • Strong research (with knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods) and analytical skills
  • Well-developed report writing skills
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you'll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you'll have the ability to work off-site and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 7120 Hurontario St, Mississauga, ON worksite.

The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time.

It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.
