Project

The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

Woodfibre Management Ltd. is a privately held Canadian company based in Vancouver and a subsidiary of Pacific Energy Corporation Limited.

Position

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Finance Manager is a key leader in the company, assisting the Financial Controller with managing the day-to-day cash to cash cycle, core accounting and financial reporting requirements for Woodfibre LNG.
This position is primarily responsible for the overall management of the finance operations to ensure timely and accurate financial results and effective financial and business controls. The Finance Manager plans and directs all accounting operational functions, manages the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, participates in the accounting and internal control systems, and guides and develops the accounting team.

The Finance Manager is expected to be instrumental in ensuring that both business and financial controls are in place and operating appropriately.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will:

  • Assist with planning, implementing and overseeing the overall Finance & Accounting strategy.
  • Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Review current processes and policies; identifying operational inefficiencies and inaccuracies /errors, developing, and implementing process and policy improvements, and developing, recommending and implementing a robust system of internal controls.
  • Manage and take responsibility of all accounting operations.
  • Maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports that are appropriate for the users and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Develop and maintain financial accounting and control systems.
  • Lead the internal and external auditing process.
  • Manage the cash flow.
  • Assist with the development of annual budget and operating plans, including the establishment of departmental budgets, forecasts, cost reduction initiatives/recommendations and financial analysis.
  • Ensure successful and complete monthly closing cycles in proper and timely manner to reflect the financial position of the company, profit & loss, capital base, and reporting.
  • Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other special ad hoc projects as assigned.

Requirements

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and CPA designation;
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years’ relevant leadership experience in a high growth company.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, oil and gas or in a startup environment is highly advantageous.
  • Ability to work effectively within an intense, fast-paced environment with minimal supervision, and to work well under pressure to meet deadlines. Ruthless prioritization is key
  • Experience in leading, coaching and mentoring team members.
  • High degree of accuracy, extremely detail oriented and ability to multitask.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with Shared Service Centres, Project Finance, and Business.
  • Ability to motivate the Finance team and bring people along the journey.

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness/ability to get more hands on as required.
  • Communication/interpersonal skills – interacting with front-line workers through to management and all hierarchical levels. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills are key for success.
  • Experience working with large multi-disciplinary teams and contractors in a multicultural environment is an asset.
  • Accepts responsibility and demonstrates a commitment to the delivery of tasks and targets.
  • Ability to be Innovative and vision-oriented with demonstrated ability to undertake strategic planning and implementation.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and change priorities within tight time frames.
  • Demonstrates and seeks accountability within the team.
  • Expertise with a variety of computer programs (e.g., MS Office), experience with SAP is a plus
  • Energetic in pursuit of continuous improvement processes.
  • Shares knowledge readily and encourages personal development.
  • A valid driver’s license and passport.
  • As required, the position is based in Vancouver, BC, with travel to the EPC contractor’s office in Houston, Squamish (site), and others.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
