HOURS OF WORK: 35-hour workweek / flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays is required
LOCATION: Hybrid Model – when working onsite, you will report to the location of West Tower.
HOURLY RATE: $20.21

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

This purpose of this position is to support the development and implementation of initiatives aimed at enhancing community safety and well-being. The incumbent will be assigned projects related to community safety and well-being and will be required to work with other team members and independently to carry out assignments.
The Community Safety Worker will attend community engagement events and activities across the city and support the planning and implementation of these events as needed. Work may include speaking with residents, making phone calls, updating databases and spreadsheets, report writing and creating slideshow presentations.

The incumbent will work on various functions related to the analysis of issues and concerns related to community safety & well-being and work collaboratively to identify possible solutions based on benchmarking and existing research.

  1. 1. Support Program Implementation:
  • Assist in the implementation of community safety programs and initiatives as directed by supervisors. This may include packaging of mailout materials and overseeing accurate data entry to spreadsheets.
  1. 1. Data Collection and Analysis:
  • Collect, organize, and analyze data related to community safety trends, projects, incidents, and outcomes.
  1. Community Engagement:
  • Engage with community members, stakeholders, and partners to gather input, disseminate information, and promote participation in safety initiatives. This may include occasional evening or weekend work.
  1. Support Event Planning and Coordination:
  • Support the planning, organizing, and coordination of community outreach events, workshops, and meetings aimed at promoting safety and well-being.
  1. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reports related to program activities, outcomes, and participant feedback.
  1. Research:
  • Assist the team with the collection and analysis of data from surveys.
  1. Professional Development:
  • Actively participate in training sessions, workshops, and other professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to community safety and well-being.
  1. Adherence to Policies and Procedures:
  • Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and protocols governing program operations, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
  1. Evaluation and Feedback:
  • Participate in program evaluation efforts by providing feedback, insights, and recommendations for improving program effectiveness and impact.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

EDUCATION:

  • - Enrolment in a post-secondary program in Community Safety, Sociology, Criminology, Political Science, Public Policy, Emergency Management, or related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • - Customer service experience is an asset.

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

  • - Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office/software including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Collaborative and respectful team member willing to communicate openly and honestly to achieve divisional goals.
  • Practical knowledge of Municipal, Regional, Provincial, and Federal government practices is an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills, and able to prioritize multiple complex tasks and activities meeting conflicting priorities and timelines.
  • Ability to effectively synthesis information, present findings and provide recommendations to various audiences.
  • Ability to apply an equity lens to all initiatives by exploring multiple perspectives.
  • A comprehensive understanding of underlying root causes and their relationship to criminal behavior.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in anti-oppression programs, sensitive to culture, race and class issues in the social housing context.
  • Strong analytical skills for complex problem solving.
