What is the opportunity?

The Credit Provisioning Analysis and Measurement (CPAM) team provides senior management with subject matter expertise, guidance and analysis for determining the allowances for credit losses (ACL) and provisions for credit losses (PCL) for the Bank’s performing assets.
Both metrics are key inputs to ensuring the financial resiliency of RBC and are widely tracked by our stakeholders. In this role, you will provide data driven analysis, insights, and recommendations for the ACL/PCL related to performing assets.

You will develop innovative processes, tools, and applications to support the ongoing evolution of our analytical capabilities. You will build consensus and collaborate effectively across a broad range of senior stakeholders to drive outcomes under tight timelines.

What will you do
  • Analyze RBC (retail and wholesale) for the purpose of understanding credit risks to recommend appropriate ACL under the Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL) accounting standard.
  • Work with the credit provision modeling and methodology teams to understand credit provision results and assumptions, provide subject matter content for ongoing enhancement of the CECL program
  • Assist the Director in providing business and risk subject matter content and analysis related to credit provisioning.
  • Prepare reports for review and challenge, ensure segregation of duties, and controls are met.
  • Develop requisite processes and maintain up to date documentation for stakeholders.
  • Comply with all bank policies including SOX controls as appropriate.
  • Keep abreast of macroeconomic, regulatory, accounting and other financial industry developments as they relate to credit risk management and provisioning
  • Understand RBC vision, as well as support and reinforce targeted behaviours that contribute to RBC goals.
  • Provide focus and clarity in establishing individual goals, driving performance management, and supporting career development.
  • Leverage the value in unit, department, and enterprise-wide teams to develop better solutions and achieve a cross enterprise mindset.
  • Accept and successfully execute change while supporting employees through the process, and keeping them focused on business priorities.
  • Anticipate, and be able to answer, both written and verbally, nearly all substantive questions related to the work of their team to internal and external stakeholders, including the respective regulators.
  • Aid in the design, implementation, and execution of specific processes and/or controls to operationalize the functionality of the team where needed.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-Have
  • Solid experience in banking and risk management (ideally credit risk though not required) with a minimum 5yrs+ work experience.
  • Advanced degree in an analytical discipline such as Finance, Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, or Economics.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in programming, finance, and data engineering for the purpose of creating powerful tools, processes and reporting.
  • Strong data visualization skills alongside the ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, complex concepts in simple terms to a nontechnical audience.
  • Demonstrated self-starter who can tailor analysis to required level of precision.
  • Quick learner with outstanding conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with an ability to deliver under pressure.
  • Works well with cross-functional teams (Risk, Finance), demonstrating strong teamwork, coordination, and people skills.
  • Ability to develop and/or maintain a strong network of internal and external relationships to facilitate credit impairment decisioning.
  • A thorough understanding of relevant accounting and regulatory guidance for CECL is preferred though not required.
Nice-to-have
  • In-depth knowledge of RBC Risk Policies, procedures & practices, Folios, etc.
  • Proficiency with Bank technology
  • Proficiency in financial modelling
