The Investment Director, Alternatives, will play a crucial role in differentiating Mackenzie’s liquid alternatives and private market solutions and driving growth of Mackenzie’s alternative strategies in the Canadian market. This role reports to the VP, Senior Investment Director, Alternatives.The Investment Director will be responsible for communicating information about alternative investment strategies to both internal and external group such as prospects, existing clients, advisors, and consultants, will help set strategic direction, will engage in thought leadership, and will interact with the portfolio management teams on a daily basis.
The ideal candidate will be a French speaker with native proficiency who has attained deep expertise in liquid alternatives and/or private markets, who can nimbly operate across a variety of asset classes, and who has developed a profile in the Quebec investment industry.
The Investment Director will play an active role in supporting Mackenzie’s growth in the following areas:
Product Management & Strategy:
- Develop and conduct competitive analysis to drive product positioning and differentiation
- Articulate points of differentiation for Mackenzie products and strategies
- Develop and communicate expert insights on alternative investment industry trends
- Coordinate with portfolio management, sales, and marketing to ensure and communicate consistent product positioning and messaging
- Create new analytical tools and frameworks and develop proactive insights, perspectives, product training, and support to sales teams
- Create content for marketing collateral, including fact sheets, brochures, or web content with the support of the marketing department; develop storylines for fund positioning and provide input on public relations, website, sales presentations, and talking points
- Represent Mackenzie in new business presentations, finals, and portfolio review meetings
- Help lead short and long-term business planning, including product lifecycle decisions and associated prioritizations, with emphasis on the Quebec market
- Analyze assets and flows, competitive performance and impact metrics, pricing, and positioning
- Collaborate with client-facing colleagues to develop customized client solutions
- Attend and present at due diligence or sales events as required, including cross-asset-class presentations at events not specifically related to alternatives
- Provide portfolio updates to internal and external partners
- Understand each channel and develop appropriate product strategy, with emphasis on Quebec market
- Participate in thought leadership initiatives: writing papers, conference presentations, webinars
- Present at industry conferences and Mackenzie events as required
- Create content for Mackenzie’s website and other media
- Contribute to the direction of Mackenzie marketing themes
- Establish and elevate Mackenzie’s reputation in the marketplace, with emphasis on Quebec
- Actively participate in the firm’s PR efforts
- Contribute to new product development ideas with the Product Development team
- Collaborate with product development and portfolio management colleagues to bring new ideas to market
- Gather and communicate intelligence from client/prospect/consultant meetings
- Create client-facing enthusiasm for innovative new products
- Provide proactive support to sales and marketing teams in positioning products; coordinate with portfolio management, sales, product, and marketing to ensure and communicate consistent product positioning and messaging
- Partner with marketing to create marketing collateral, including content for fact sheets, brochures, or web content with the support of the marketing department; develop storylines for fund positioning and provide input on public relations, website, sales presentations, and talking points
- Proactively respond to request-for-proposals (RFPs) and due diligence questionnaires (DDQs)
- Support the development of institutional product pieces, including pitchbooks, impact reports, and product profiles
- Develop deep partner relationships across Mackenzie functional units
- Participate in the completion of Management Reports of Fund Performance (MRFPs).
- Understand investment strategies, performance, impact, and attribution analysis.
- Proactively update monthly commentaries and Portfolio Manager presentations.
- At least 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong investment knowledge of capital markets and global asset management trends
- Thorough knowledge of alternative investments and their role in portfolio construction
- Advanced knowledge in analytical and data visualization tools
- Proven client relations skills, including the ability to manage multiple constituent relationships within the organization
- Ability to command respect from the external investment community, including clients
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including excellent communication skills and product knowledge
- Poise, judgment and gravitas to represent Mackenzie with clients and prospects
- Comfortable working autonomously with a builder mindset
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Proven organizational skills
- Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills
- Experience with Tableau, eVestment, Morningstar Direct, Preqin and Bloomberg is preferred
- CFA required, CAIA designation is an asset
- Some travel will be required
- This position will be based in Montreal
Knowledge of French and English is required to support clients et Team members within and/ or outside the province of Quebec.
