Overview

The Accountant I (known internally as “Grower Accountant I”) plays a pivotal role in our team, ensuring accurate and timely financial transactions for our grower clients. Responsible for reconciling settlements, preparing wire payment requests, and issuing confirmations, this role collaborates closely with deal coordinators to provide essential accounting support.

With a focus on process improvement and collaboration, the Grower Accountant I actively contributes to achieving departmental goals while embracing opportunities for professional growth within our dynamic environment.

The expected base salary range of this position is $55,000 - $60,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position based in our U.S. and Canada office locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by various factors including location, job-related skills, relevant experience, education, formal training, and internal equity.

Note: This is a hybrid position based from our Coquitlam, BC office with a minimum of 3-days in office required.

Accountabilities
  • Performs daily reconciling of Grower settlements, following established policy and procedures.
  • Possess a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, along with excellent analytical and research skills, enabling effective problem-solving capabilities.
  • Reviews financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and up-to-date financial records, including settlements, wire transactions, and wire confirmations.
  • Escalates any financial discrepancies or disputes to Team Lead, Grower Accounting for investigation and resolution.
  • Adheres to company and department systems and protocols including documentation and reporting.
  • Supports leadership in meeting financial reporting deadlines and department objectives.
  • Promotes a customer-focused, service-oriented culture in alignment with the company’s core values.
  • Performs additional ad hoc duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge & Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP), working knowledge of Word and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to problem solve and make appropriate accounting recommendations and decisions.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication (written & verbal) and customer service skills; ability to work effectively with multiple departments and forge strong relationships within the grower accounting team and with all other stakeholders.
  • Proven ability in exercising good judgement and critical thinking skills; demonstrates a high level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism at all times.
  • Strong organization and time management skills; ability to prioritize multiple demands in a timely manner.
  • Self-motivated with high standards/attention to detail; ability to set priorities and work accurately within tight deadlines in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • Positive and engaging attitude, with a commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and fun working environment.
  • Knowledge of USDA regulations and other produce-related industry regulations and standards in both Canada and the US is an asset.
Required Qualifications
  • Degree, diploma in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum, 1 - 3 years’ experience in an accounting environment.
