Position Purpose:

Reporting to the Director of Canada East and Nuclear Services, the Regional Manager, Central, is responsible for establishing the central operational division and for the leadership and operational direction of the regional team. Working as a cohesive unit with other managers, the Regional Manager supports and implements strategic plans to grow the business, supports the organization’s profit targets, and develops a highly skilled and superior workforce.

The Regional Manager oversees the operations in this region, mentoring Operations staff and Project Managers, client relationship building, increasing revenue, and making sure safety is a top priority for all employees.

Due to the nature of this position, occasional business travel is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Full profit and loss responsibility for the region.
  • Maintaining industry-leading performance in customer service, quality, and safety.
  • Creating and implementing short and long-term business plans for the region.
  • Developing and maintaining operational plans for with on-going cost management, budget control, and performance management.
  • Overseeing and directing regional staff, including project management.
  • Coordinating activities with other Applus regions to maximize the benefits and utilization of resources, equipment, personnel, training, and customer strategies.
  • Developing and maintaining forecasts and budgets.
  • Collaborating with Business Development and other colleagues to identify opportunities for new business, services, and clients.
  • Developing and maintaining operational plans for with on-going cost management, budget control, and performance management.
  • Managing key accounts and maintaining client relationships.
  • Driving the continuous improvement of regional processes and procedures to achieve operational excellence.
  • Continuously evaluating the business structure and staffing levels to ensure the business resources reflect current market conditions and demand for services.
  • Recognizing and developing individual and team potential, and mentoring the company’s future leaders.
  • In cooperation with Human Resources, developing and tracking personal development plans for all direct reports, and supporting them in doing so with their reports.
  • Leading, coaching, and mentoring direct reports to support high performance, employee development and succession planning, and supporting them in doing so with their reports.
  • Informing all divisional employees on corporate strategy, objectives, and annual plans.
  • Maintaining a credible profile with relevant industry associations and representing Applus at events where required.
  • Staying current on industry and technological trends and identifying opportunities for adjustments and additions to Applus services.
  • Upholding and promoting corporate values, standards, and processes at all times.
  • Adhering to organizational policies and procedures, including but not limited to Applus Code of Ethics and Confidentiality Agreements.
  • Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Firmly adheres to the values and ethics of Applus. Exhibits honesty, discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of NDT techniques, services, and procedures.
  • Proven team leadership skills and the ability to influence others at all levels of an organization.
  • Understands the metrics used to measure business performance, including financial reporting, cost analysis, and forecasting.
  • Ability to be multifunctional and to work with appropriate departments and regions for the development of shared services and opportunities, staff management, and to maximize use of internal resources.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed while still supporting the team as a whole.
  • Excellent customer service focus, ability to quickly build strong working relationships with business partners and colleagues.
  • Must be able to perform in a fast-paced environment with ability to manage competing priorities, multi-task and change priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office and other software applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills matched with the ability to negotiate and build relationships with key stakeholders.

Education and Work Experience:

  • 10+ years’ industry related experience in supervisory management, quality management, project management and/or business development in NDT or a related field.
  • Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master’s of Business Administration is an asset.
  • Equivalent industry experience combined with other formal training and accreditations may be accepted.

Working Conditions:

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work inside an office environment, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • The work is primarily sedentary.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • Work outside of normal business hours will be occasionally required.
  • Occasional to frequent travel will be required within Canada.
  • Overtime required during the week and weekend with work volume
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedules and respond to requests without advance warning or notification
