The Unit Manager (UM) provides effective management of human, material and financial resources and the mentoring and coaching of the unit-based staff. The Unit Manager effectively manages clinical resources, resolves issues within his/her scope of responsibility and manages day to day performance.
Coordinates clinical activities by providing day to day guidance for the staff identifying and attempting to resolve patient or staff concerns, staff scheduling, promote quality patient care and participating actively in the discharge planning process.
The essential components of this first line management position are administration, practice, education and research. Promotes harmonious and effective communication and relationships within the management team, staff and other department representatives.
Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Unit Manager of Medicine is responsible for leading the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in the acute Medicine area of the facility with a program team management structure.
The successful candidate works closely with the leadership team and physicians to ensure best nursing practice and the provision of quality care. Actively participates in staff education, quality improvement and program development. Accountable for effective management of resources within the budget provided.
Responsible for the selection, hiring, evaluation and coaching of nursing staff. Minimum of 2 years Nursing/Management experience in acute care setting required. Minimum of 2 years clinical experience in General Internal Medicine within the last 5 years required.
